Organizations moved to eLearning to overcome the challenges associated with classroom training. With the flexibility of self-paced learning, eLearning emerged as a boon for today’s time-parched employees. However, the solution came along with associated perils as organizations started rolling out eCourses rapidly to meet ever-increasing training needs. In their quest to deliver online training to employees, at the speed of need, organizations often resorted to passive, click ‘Next’ page-turners. Delivering courses that are relevant to learner needs and equipped to engage learners in a self-driven environment took a backseat. This heralded a bleak phase for eLearning as courses not aligned to learner needs—in terms of content and more importantly, the elusive engagement factor—failed to engage learners.
